Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA)

The contrast agent is excreted by the kidneys in the urine after the test.

With CT angiography, blocked, narrowed, enlarged or abnormal arteries or veins are identified and studied in various areas of the body, such as in the brain, chest, heart, abdomen, upper and lower parts, which we will describe below. The duration of the test is extremely short.

Axial CT Coronary Angiography

Axial CT coronary angiography is a new and bloodless examination for the examination of the coronary vessels. The examination first appeared with the creation of the sophisticated polytomous CT scanners. The exam is very simple and no preparation is required. Its time duration is approximately 10 minutes and the "slices" are taken by holding a breath for 10-15 seconds.

An intravenous drug is administered to delineate the coronary vessels and the patient can return to his daily activities after the examination. Considering that coronary artery disease is now the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in economically developed countries, it seems that CT angiography is now a routine examination.

Calcium Scoring

The Calcium Scoring measurement measures and evaluates calcium deposition in the coronary vessels of the heart and is an important indicator of the possibility of developing serious heart disease, or even strokes. Calcium deposits in the arteries of the heart are a strong sign that atherosclerotic plaques are likely to also be present within the coronary vessels, capable of leading to heart attack and/or sudden death.

Population groups for which the examination is indicated

• Patients with atypical angina pectoris
• People with high predisposing factors for coronary heart disease
• By-pass patients who will be able to avoid consecutive cardiac catheterizations to check their grafts

The following must be emphasized: people with atypical angina pectoris or with high predisposing factors are a population that does not have diagnosed coronary artery disease. In this population CT coronary angiography functions more as a preventive control (screening) to diagnose a serious condition in time.

Its sensitivity and specificity are quite high and even higher than those of other tests used for preventive screening such as mammography.

It is the safest, painless, bloodless and non-traumatic screening method for all categories of examinees and patients, because it does not show any of the possible complications like classic coronary angiography.

At the same time, it is an extremely simple examination in its execution process and its cost is much lower than that of classic coronary angiography.

In combination with magnetic heart and myocardial scintigraphy, it forms the complete package of monitoring cardiac function.

CT Angiography - Head

CT angiography of the head makes it possible to check the blood vessels of the brain.

This is a non-invasive method. It is also used in the context of preventive control and is ideal for checking the existence of an aneurysm, A.V.N - arteriovenous dysplasia, narrowing or blockage of brain vessels.

CT Angiography - Carotid Arteries

CT angiography of the carotid arteries is used in the context of preventive control, but also based on indications and other clinical history in order to examine the condition of the carotid arteries. 

CT Pulmonary Angiogram

It is the only and ideal examination for highlighting the existence of a pulmonary embolism.

CT Angiography of the Lower Extremities

It is performed in cases where it is necessary to assess the condition and blood flow in the vessels of the lower extremities.

Through CT angiography of the lower extremities, the existence of narrowing or blockage of arteries, embolism in veins, etc. can be checked.

This is also an election exam when it comes to screening.

Virtual Colonoscopy

Virtual Colonoscopy is a modern imaging examination of the large intestine with the aim of studying its lumen without the use of an endoscope.

It has the great advantage of avoiding the (quite unpleasant for the patient) penetration of the endoscope along the entire length of the colon, as well as the fact that it can examine areas that the endoscope cannot reach due to anatomical problems, poor patient cooperation or existence of obstructions in the intestinal lumen.

There is the disadvantage of not being able to take a biopsy.

 CT urography is used to investigate hematuria. It is a modern examination method for evaluating the urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder) and detecting abnormalities, which provides important and useful information to the clinician.

CT Angiography of the abdominal aorta

CT angiography of the abdominal aorta detects the existence of aneurysm, stenosis, dilatation, etc. It is also used in post-operative control after stent placement.
